Walking in the Wilderness

DAY 3 OF 5

## Hope In Foreign Land In the 6th century BC, God’s people were in exile and living in a foreign land. It was a wilderness for them – a place that God never intended for His children to live. God sent His word through the prophet Isaiah telling him to "comfort My people," saying their time in exile was over (Isaiah 40:1–2), that God was going to make a highway straight through the desert, and that every valley will be raised up, every mountain brought low. The rugged terrain would become level ground and the rough places a plain. His words ring true to us today as we travel through uncertain times, many feeling like foreigners in our own city. Today the "wilderness" is not so much about the geography around us as it is about the landscape of our heart, our focus. There are many paths into exile but only one way out – the way of the Lord. Even when you see no way out, no hope, and you think that all is lost – look to Jesus. He will do for you what you cannot do for yourself. He will love you, forgive you, heal you, make the uneven ground before you straight, and bring you home. #### Written by HEIDI WYSMAN
