When You Don't Know What to Pray Sample

When You Feel God Is Distant
Father, at times I feel so distant from You, and I’m not sure what to do about it. I realize that every believer has times when You seem far off—desert times when we must choose to believe Your promise to always be with us, rather than trusting our feelings. But, Jesus, I long for Your presence with me. I need Your comfort, wisdom, and strength. I cry out as David did, “O my God, do not be far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!” (Psalm 38:21–22). Just as David was reassured that You heard him, I ask that You would help me be confident of Your presence as well, whether that be through Your Word, a memory of Your intervention, a friend, a song, a sermon, or whatever You choose to use.
Father, if there is some sin in me that is separating me from You, please show me so I can confess it and repent from it. If I am believing a lie of the Enemy that is undermining my relationship with You, purge it out and lead me in Your truth. And if there is something You are teaching me, Father, help me learn it quickly so I can again enjoy a close, intimate walk with You.
I cry out to You, Lord, grateful that You always hear me and always answer. I’m so glad You neither leave nor forsake me, and that this distance is only a feeling, not the reality of our relationship. Thank You for showing me the cause of this distance and helping me to overcome it. Thank You for opening Your Word, speaking to me through Your Holy Spirit, and restoring our sweet fellowship. I set my heart to listen to You, Lord. Thank You for communicating with me and drawing me close once again.
In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
