Daily Bible Reading – October 2021: God’s Word of Justice

DAY 15 OF 31

October 15 Introduction Today we begin reading from the book of the prophet Amos. Amos was from a town in Judah (in the southern kingdom), but preached to the people in the northern kingdom of Israel during the middle of the eighth century B.C. It was a time of great prosperity, but Amos saw that prosperity was limited to the wealthy and that the poor were victims of injustice and oppression. Today’s reading begins with Amos proclaiming God’s judgment on Israel’s neighbors. Today’s Scripture Reading Amos 1:1-15 Today’s Key Verse: Amos 1:2a Amos said, “The LORD roars from Mount Zion; his voice thunders from Jerusalem.” Reflect What sins have the various nations committed? How are they to be punished? How are these punishments are justified? Why? Pray Loving God, open my heart and eyes to the needs of those suffering under the yoke of oppression. Help me work for justice and peace and be a beacon of hope to those who need to hear of Your saving love and grace. In the Name of Jesus, Amen. Prayer Concern People throughout the world who are victims of oppression and injustice Tomorrow’s Reading Amos 2:1-16: The prophet Amos proclaims God’s judgment on Israel.
