Transforming Your MindSample

Have you ever gotten a song stuck in your head? Sometimes when we remember a specific verse or chorus of a song, it can get stuck in our minds for an entire day and play on repeat. The things that we think about have a significant impact on us- they get stuck easily. In the book of Philippians, Paul encourages the church by telling them to think about things that are pleasing to God— things that are good, noble, honorable, and pure. He said that “if anything is excellent or worthy of praise,” to think about it! When we focus our minds and thoughts on things that are pleasing to God, it is one way of worshiping Him. But when we fill our minds with junk and things that don’t make us better or point us toward Jesus, our heads get crowded with lies and all kinds of messiness. To transform our minds, we need to focus them on things that are from God; good, pleasing, and perfect things.
Challenge: Today, take some time to memorize this verse. Throughout your day or week, when your thoughts start to drift to things that you know aren’t pleasing to God, repeat this verse to yourself and refocus your attention on God.
