Press Play: Helping Your Kids Build Confidence

DAY 4 OF 5

Confidence. It’s what we want for our kids. But not confidence in their athletic skills. Not confidence in their gaming skills. Not confidence in their test-taking skills. Not confidence in their selfie skills. Nope. All of those things only give them temporary confidence. What they’ll need is a confidence that lasts. Confidence that no matter what happens to them, no matter how hard life gets, they can be confident because God loves them, will never leave them, and has a great plan for their life. That is the kind of confidence we want for them. Because that is the kind of confidence that will change everything. Here are some great Bible verses to remind them of these truths and boost the kind of lasting confidence we’re going for: > “Here is what I am commanding you to do. Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go” (Joshua 1:9). > Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him (Jeremiah 17:7 NIV). > Even if an army attacks me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if war breaks out against me, I will still trust in God (Psalm 27:3). Friends . . . the Bible is filled with verses like these! When our kids believe them, recite them, and memorize them, their confidence will SOAR! I want your kids to think of something that THEY ARE NOT GOOD AT. It could be pushups. It could be dribbling a basketball. It could be writing. It could be anything. Now. I want them to go and DO THE THING THEY ARE NOT GOOD AT for 10 minutes. When they’re done, I want them to read those verses above OUT LOUD twice. Then, they should ask God to give them a little boost of confidence and try the activity again for five minutes. I want them to FEEL what it feels like to not have confidence in something and then to ask God to be their confidence. I promise they will feel it. So, they should go ahead. Quit reading and go be confident enough to be bad at something! No hesitating. No pausing. They should JUST GO FOR IT! PRESS PLAY! When they’re done, they can write down how they felt the second time they did it. I want them to pray this prayer. . . with confidence! Dear God, I’m slowly realizing that my confidence is built on Your strength and not mine. Will You show me different ways that I can be confident in You? Will You put me in situations that show me that You can use me no matter what? I love You and I ask these things in Jesus’ name . . . AMEN!
