Heart of a Champion: An Athlete’s Identity in God

DAY 5 OF 7

### Starting Over Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a “do-over” when you make mistakes in life? We often experience embarrassment or trials when things go wrong; and it’s not always our fault. Other people’s mistakes--even acts of God--can throw us a curveball. Sometimes a second chance would be a real blessing. Even with high levels of motivation, athletes can fail due to wrong decisions, failure to train adequately, or dozens of uncontrollable circumstances. The good news is God is the Master of second chances. Sure, your coach wants you to succeed. Your teammates, friends, and family do, too. But no one wants you to succeed more than the One who made you and gave you all your gifts and skills. He loves you so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to save you (and anyone who believes in Him) so you would not die, but live with Him forever. How’s that for a positive scoreboard? You may or may not have opportunities to try again in sporting competitions, financial investments, relationships, or other life events. But Christ’s work on the cross guarantees your soul a “do-over.” No matter what you’ve done, no matter what has been done to you, Jesus has provided an escape through His loving sacrifice. Turn to Him today and every day, for a million second chances!
