The River
"Every living thing that gathers where the river goes will live. There will be very many fish, because these waters go there and make the salt water clean. So everything will live where the river goes." Ezekiel 47:9
Throughout Scripture, the imagery of the river of God speaks of abundant life, provision and joy.
We read in the book of Ezekiel that he learned that the river flowed to the Dead Sea where it brought new life to that forsaken area. The water from the temple would bring healing to the Dead Sea as well as the rivers. The trees on the banks of the river would provide food and the leaves would be used for healing to the people. I love what Warren W. Wiersbe comments, “Life comes from the temple of God, not from a palace or government building!”
Just as God led Ezekiel from the temple further into the river, so today, God is inviting, calling and leading us into the wild adventure and life of the Spirit. And the river is not just a literal historic entity; Jesus saw such a river as a symbol of the Holy Spirit (John 7:37-39). So jump in deeper to the flow of the Holy Spirit, where life, freedom, healing, justice and salvation are available.
The river of God carries the heart of the Father. And everything will live where the river goes. Hallelujah!
TO DO:
So in what way can you jump in to the river of God today? Where is the Holy Spirit leading you? How is He drawing you into deeper waters of adventure and faith?
