2020 Was the Best Year Ever!

DAY 4 OF 7

Finances My heart sunk within my chest when I saw it. Couches, bookshelves, odds and ends, heaped up in a pile on the curb in our neighborhood. It was September 1, 2020, and it was the day where the grace period ended and evictions began. 2020 left a lot of people in tears and in fear of the future. Maybe you are someone who did everything right. You showed up on time and went above and beyond even when no one was looking. And then 2020 peaked it’s bizarre head, and pulled the rug out from under you, landing you on your back. Now you’re gasping for air as the panic swells up inside you from the soles of your feet to the top of your aching head. If God allowed me a moment to speak to the two families who suddenly found their belongings strewn across the sod for all the world to see, I would say to them what my friend said to me last week, Don’t give up before the miracle… There was a widow in the Bible who came face to face with most parent’s worst nightmare--losing their children. Her husband died and the creditor was planning on taking her two sons as slaves. Ummm…. Yeah, I can’t even go there in my mind. She was in a dire situation with seemingly no solution. But that’s the requirement for a miracle. God provided an endless supply of oil in which she sold to pay back the creditors and keep her sons. Would I even want to find myself in a situation like that? No. However, I wonder about Daniel who felt the hot breath of a lion on his skin; or the three Israelites who found themselves surrounded by smoke and flames; or Moses who suddenly was sandwiched in by a sea and soldiers… would they have had it any other way when they witnessed what the God of the Universe was working out on their behalf? “Okay Julie but they are great heroes of the Bible.” I hear you say, “That doesn’t happen today.” Well I want to challenge you on that mindset. The God you pleaded with to provide for your family is the same God that shut the mouth of the lions, softened the fiery flames, and split the Red Sea. He is the same today, yesterday, and forever. His power has not changed and neither has His heart towards His people. Walk in faith and obedience and trust that God will provide for you just as He does for the birds of the air and fish of the sea. Just don’t give up before the miracle.
