Real Hope: Justice Towards Our Neighbours Sample

Real Hope: Justice Towards Our Neighbours

DAY 1 OF 5

# THE VISION OF LIFE AND JUSTICE Lent is a time to reflect on the gifts given to us through Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection. It is also a time to consider how we share the gifts that we have received with others. Justice is often thought of as a process of retribution for wrongdoing. Although this is an important part of justice, it doesn’t include the restorative justice at the heart of the gift of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. Isaiah wrote about what it could look like to live in a world where justice is promoted by godly leaders and lived out through relationships. Biblical justice carries the vision of life lived in the restored harmony that God first intended. Jesus offers us this gift of complete restoration with God. This enables us to reach out with a restorative spirit to our neighbours (all people). Living with a spirit of justice can take many different forms. I started by choosing to receive emails that keep me alert and prayerful about injustices in the world through IJM (International Justice Mission). Friendships that have come through walking with refugees and with families impacted by someone’s imprisonment have helped me understand more about justice. I try not to get overwhelmed with the need as I keep my heart alive to the intent of justice. I have changed a quote by John Wesley into a prayer: God help me to do all the good I can, by all the means I can, in all the ways I can, in all the places I can, at all the times I can, to all the people I can, as long as ever I can while accepting that my part may seem small and insignificant. Amen. ##### written by KATH HENRY
