Draw Near – 365 Guides to Greater Intimacy with God

DAY 38 OF 365

FROM US Two shipwrecked men were marooned on an uninhabited island in the South Pacific. They had been there for many months, living off roots and berries, when they saw a bottle floating in on the tide. They shrieked with joy. With trembling hands, they uncorked it to get the note inside. When they saw the note, their faces fell. "Nuts," one of them exclaimed. "It's from us." This illustrates that whatever we throw out will eventually come back to us. This is the premise of Ecclesiastes 11:1. The farmer's fields were flooded, but he sowed anyway. When the waters receded, the seed grew and the crop came. There is an eternal law of sowing and reaping. If we are merciful, we obtain mercy. If we sow to the flesh, we, like the flesh, are destined for corruption. If we sow to the spirit, we receive eternal life. Therefore, we continue to sow good seeds for the Kingdom though it may seem fruitless to do so. Solomon was wise in saying: In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike-will be good. Our job is to sow faith; it is God's job to make the crop grow.
