Draw Near – 365 Guides to Greater Intimacy with GodSample
CANADA'S COLD
A prominent Canadian talked about the interdependence of his country and the United States. He said, "Economically, when the United States sneezes, Canada gets a cold." While some may object to such close dependence, we have to recognize that all nations are inevitably interlocked in mutual reliance on one another. In essence, the human race must stand together, or it will not survive.
Moses seemed to sense this kind of dependence on the people of his tiny nation. He depended on their survival, since he had tied his own fortunes in with God's chosen people. At Kadesh, he prayed God would spare them and grant them mercy in spite of their unfaithfulness (Numbers 14:13-19). He predicted national embarrassment if God failed to fulfill His promises to Israel.
The plea of Moses for his people could be considered a pattern for our prayers. Often, we pray about personal problems or personal desires. Too often, we neglect our larger responsibility of praying that revival may come to our nations. Moses was right in asking forgiveness for his people. Today, may we follow his example and pray for our nations, our leaders, and citizens.
