Happy

DAY 1 OF 5

Accept your lot Americans have a special love affair with happiness. How many other nations have a chartering document that asserts their God-given right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of it? The freedom to chase happiness, however, does not mean that you’ll get it. Happiness is not something that you can pursue and then acquire externally. It doesn’t come with more money, more possessions, more power, more friends, or more fame. Happiness is a choice you make about how you look at your world. Happy believers rejoice in their relationship with God through Christ; rejoice in the people God has given them in their lives; rejoice at the promises he’s made of provision, protection, and guidance; and feel blessed by whatever material possessions he has chosen to give. Let the sunlight of King Solomon’s wisdom shine in your mind: “When God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil--this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart” (Ecclesiastes 5:19,20). If you catch yourself saying things like, “I’ll be happy when . . .” you’re already off track. That day may never come, or when it does you’ll be caught up in chasing something else. You can decide to be happy today. Happy are those who accept their lot. Let me hear you say, “I love my life!”
