I Seek God First in Mothering Mothering is the natural feminine capacity to love, nurture, and respond to the needs of a child. To seek God first in mothering is to seek God’s help and trust God in every aspect of mothering. It does not matter how insignificant the help you need may seem. Seeking God first in mothering means consistently looking to God’s supernatural strength to enhance your natural mothering competency. It involves asking God for wisdom to know what to do uniquely for your child. It involves seeking God’s will specifically for you and your child in every season of mothering. It’s like saying “God, lead me to the right pediatrician”, “God, show me what to eat to increase my milk supply and nourish my baby”, “God, lead me to the right child-care center”, or “God, teach me to connect with my child because you know her more than I do”. A Christian mother does not depend solely on her natural mothering instincts. She seeks God’s help, knowing that God knows her children more than she does. “ Behold Children are a gift of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3 NASB). Question for Reflection: Am I solely dependent on my natural mothering abilities? Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of motherhood. I believe You know my child(ren) more than I do. I surrender my mothering practices to you. Teach me to remember to seek you first and not lean solely on my own understanding. In Jesus name. Amen .
