Walking With Jesus

DAY 4 OF 40

### Saved by Grace Through Faith A preacher once used the following simple definition of faith: Faith is trusting in God that He is who He says He is and believing that He will do what He says He will do. Faith is not an emotion but a choice. The opposite of faith is fear and unbelief. My definition of grace is: To experience God’s unmerited (underserved) favour upon your life. Grace is to receive what you don’t deserve and to receive an enablement to do what is expected of you. We need to trust the Lord and not only walk and live by the things that we see, but by faith. Some basics about faith: * Faith is central to our salvation (Ephesians 2: 8-9) * Each one of us has received a measure of faith (Romans 12:3) * It is our faith that overcomes the world  (1 John 5:4-5) * Our faith grows by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17) Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal): * What are the three main areas in which you doubt the character of God? * What are the three main areas / circumstances that keep you from standing in faith and trusting in God wholeheartedly? * What are the two major things / changes that you are trusting God for at the moment? Testimony We were on our way through Angola on a mission trip and needed specific documents in order to progress through the roadblocks. When we arrived in a certain town, we found that the electricity was off and the officials had left for another town, only returning in three days’ time. We needed those papers on that specific day. We parked next to the police station, not knowing what to do. It was very hot and I soon started complaining and telling God that it was His fault. After three hours of complaining, I finally kept quiet and started listening to God, who told me to start asking Him by faith for the specific papers. Three minutes later, a car stopped next to the road and a stranger got out. He said: “I was driving by and felt a deep desire to stop and help you”. He was a government official who issued permits for vehicles. Then a policeman walked towards us and asked us if we were the people from South Africa. He took out a paper and said that he had received a fax that gave us permission to drive through all the provinces. Within 40 minutes we had our permits and could continue on our way. I only realised later that the police officer receiving the fax when there was no electricity actually constituted another miracle!
