COOLANT It looks like green Kool-Aid. The pretty liquid even appears delicious to drink. It sports the aroma of mint and has an alcohol feel when touched. It is coolant. Also known as radiator fluid, it is the most important part of a car’s cooling system. When the engine revs up and the car runs for hundreds of miles, it is but natural for the engine to heat up. Include the summer sun in the equation and the mean machine is on the verge of meltdown. Thanks to the coolant, the engine is protected from going overboard. Coolants shield your engine from overheating. Low coolant level can lead to a breakdown and expensive repairs. And just like a car, I think we also need to pour some “spiritual coolant” in our lives especially when the going gets tough. In a world where there are lots of injustice, bullies and gossipers, we sometimes get hurt by some people’s actions or words. More often, we get the urge to blow our top. Here’s my advice: think coolant and then chill! Go to the Bible verses in Proverbs for today. There you have it. Clear as day. It’s super wise to really chill. So just in case you get into a very tight situation and get tempted to lose your cool, I suggest you take a good time-out to clear your head and heart first. Don’t fight fire with fire. Put some coolant on by applying prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit and asking Him to take over your emotions. This is better than trying to resolve an issue with a head as hot as a sizzling plate. When the chill mode is on, fix the conflict without complaining, ranting or raving. As you do this, you’ll be able to save yourself from a whole lot of trouble by preventing yourself from doing things you’ll surely regret in the future. One on one with God Lord Jesus, thank You for reminding me to keep my cool all the time. There’s no benefit in being a hot-tempered person. And I acknowledge that today. I want to be cool, calm and collected. I want to be like You — peaceful in times of storms. I know I honor You when I choose to control my temper. And I will strive to continue to do this because I know it pleases You. Amen.
