Faith Greater Than Fear; 10 Days Of Faith Using God's Equation

DAY 8 OF 10

SAY WHAT? Even though I walk through dark places I won’t fear because I know that The Lord is with me. BREAKDOWN: This scripture speaks directly to who God is in our lives and who we are to God. God is the One—the only One—who can comfort us at all times, especially in times of fear. When I think of the word comfort here, I think of my comforter on my bed. I like to sleep in a room that is a little cold, not a lot, but just enough so I need to cover up. When I do decide to cover up, my comforter covers my whole body—not just parts of it—but every place. It makes me warmer than before I put it on. I can’t think of a better example of Jesus and the Love of Christ. This Love comforts us in dark places and dark times. Like my comforter, God's love also keeps us warm from the cold elements outside of His love. As a Christian, we will have moments of fear, but we need to listen to the scriptures and trust in God’s comfort that is always with us. This scripture also speaks of God’s comfort as a rod and staff, which are tools that a “good” shepherd uses on his sheep. The rod and staff are used to correct and guide the sheep, and every now and again, God needs us to be corrected away from the wrong thing and guided toward His correct path. Fear, if we allow it to take hold of us, moves us away from God’s correction and guidance, and will ultimately harm us. The number one role of the shepherd is to protect the sheep from the dangers of the world. These sheep are labeled as targets and the Shepherd must look out for the enemy who will come to harm the sheep. The Shepherd is following God’s plan even though he is walking through the “valley” of the shadow of death. God wants us to keep walking and to fear no evil because we are not alone. The fact that the writer keeps walking is a testament to the faith in God greater and over the fear of the evil. God has called us to walk through dark places because of His light, which shines through us. LIVE IT OUT: Today look for ways to follow God’s plan and God’s guidance. Don’t allow yourself to stop in the shadow of fear or even in real fear. Instead, keep moving forward in God’s faith for your life. PRAYER: God, I pray that you help me to follow Your path and Your ways today even in the midst of my fears. Jesus, show me how to continue walking in faith, trusting that your rod and staff will protect me. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
