DAY 38 OF 365

EXODUS 15-16: Yesterday we heard that because of the Passover plague which killed Egypt's firstborn, God claims the firstborn of Israel for all time to come. Then we heard of Pharaoh's final hardening of his heart, and the parting of the red sea. JOB 38: In the 6 chapters before this, Elihu has said that God uses multiple means of communication with humans. He maintained that God is just, and said that Job— in his despair, had gone too far in saying it doesn't make any difference if one tries to serve God. He said that God is amazing in His power, and God does notice and punish the wicked. Then it so happened that as Elihu was speaking, a storm was blowing up that showed God's awesome majesty. Then— in today’s chapter, the Lord answers Job, not the last speaker, Elihu. 2PETER 2: Yesterday we heard that we can employ God's promises to supply power for godly living. This power can even enable us to share in God's own nature, thereby escaping the world's corruption. It’s good to review what Peter said at the end of chapter 1, as his mention of the prophets forms a stark contrast with the false teachers Peter will describe in chapter 2. Translation note: The Greek of 2Peter 1:1 is very clear, that Peter designates Jesus as both our God and our Savior. However some translations are ambiguous, like GNT: 1:1 GNT From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ— To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have been given a faith as precious as ours: That Jesus is being named as God is quite clear in the Greek. In our translation into Indonesian we made that clear by isolating the idea in a separate sentence. The translation below is worded like our translation into Indonesian: PET: 1-2 Dear Brothers and Sisters of mine in the faith— namely you who have been blessed by God so that you fully believe in Christ Jesus just like we do. And because of believing you’re blessed abundantly just like we have— in that we have been saved through what Christ Jesus did to make us righteous. He is our God and Savior!
