We want to spend the next week helping us identify things that are real: Real about us.  Real about God.  Real about God’s hopes, dreams, and desires for our lives. The reality is that God has a purpose for our lives. It’s true. As much as a hammer, a spoon or a chainsaw has a purpose, we have a purpose too. Often our greatest source of discouragement comes from the fact that we’re not living out your purpose. We could comb our hair with a hammer, but we sure would get discouraged and it would hurt. We could chop down a tree with a spoon, but that would take forever. We could cut our steak with a chainsaw, but that would be messy. Understanding and living out our purpose is like finding a ‘sweet spot’ of life – it’s a place where our amazing calling and the supreme promise of our Maker line up. God has a way of giving purpose to the pain of our past, as well as purpose for the future. It’s strange that we weigh so many different factors when it comes to discovering our purpose. The truth is finding out more details about our purpose really just involves asking God about it.  Think about it: When our iPhone acts up, we take it to the Apple store. If we want to understand our purpose, we ought to pursue our maker for the answer. Culture, parents, friends, media and even church leaders will try to answer that question for us but the true answer is only found by knowing our maker...God. Ephesians 2:10 speaks to this.  Here it says that we were “created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”.  That means God has a purpose for you today.  Something that you’re meant to do, something that ONLY YOU can do the way God wants it done.  Isn’t that awesome to think about?! Spend a few minutes in prayer (remembering that prayer is a conversation)…Ask God to help you discover His purpose for you. Listen, wait, ponder, dream and listen again. Invite God to speak to you and prepare to be changed.
