Bad Girls Rehab

DAY 3 OF 5

"The Woman at the Well" Have you ever dealt with shame? So much so that it caused you to steer clear of people in fear of their judgment? If so, our next “Bad Girl” has something to share. The woman at the well or the Samaritan Woman… oh I’m so sorry in case you aren’t familiar with this woman; she is referred to not by name but by location. We could go on and on trying to pinpoint the reasons. Still, I believe the location directly links to the purpose of her story. When going through Samaria, I believe Jesus was making an intentional decision to break down racial prejudices. It was highly uncommon and a practically nonexistent event to find a Jew and a Samaritan speaking. Yet, Jesus goes out of his way to travel through Samaria. And because Jesus is God the Son the encounter at the well surely came as no surprise. Except, Jesus doesn’t just break the chains of prejudices but he frees this woman of her shame. Prior to meeting Jesus she came to draw water at the hottest time of the day. Most speculate her actions were done to avoid the “eye rolls” and “gossiping lips” of those in the town. You see, she was known for her sexual sin. This shame is probably what prompted her to come to the well when no interaction with others would be required. Oh, but God had something planned for this woman. The bondage she was in because of sin was about to be exposed and freedom was coming. She had one encounter with Christ and her life was forever changed. How do we know? John 4 tells us that after the encounter with Christ, she went running through the city telling people of the Messiah. She went from a guilt-ridden woman, gathering water at the hottest time of the day to a woman transformed by the grace of God that she was bursting at the seams to share The Good News of Jesus Christ. All you need is one encounter with our Lord and Savior. Seek his refuge today.
