21 Days After Camp

DAY 13 OF 21

## The Promise of Honor Making honor a priority to your parents and leaders will set you up for God’s blessings. As a teenager there is a desire for recognition of your gifting, talents, or abilities, but that should never hold you back from showing honor to your parents. God did not give this commandment with a contingency plan that said, “Honor your father and mother IF they deserve it.” He commanded us to live our lives this way and when we are obedient, we will be blessed because of it. This is the promise of honor! Be generous in how you show appreciation to your parents and don’t withhold honor from them. Honor is not based on your feelings, but based on God’s commandment so, “it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth”. When we keep this commandment, we understand how Jesus sees our parents and how to love them the way He does. Your parents are not perfect people, but neither are you, which is why we needed a savior. But remember, even when it feels difficult, honor unlocks doors that disrespect cannot. If we only give honor when we feel our parents deserve it, then that truly isn’t honor. Getting angry, becoming critical, comparing your parents to others is not honoring to God or your parents. No matter what your family dynamics may look like, be intentional throughout your weeks to show the authority in your life how much you respect them. Show respect to those around you today and receive the Promise of Honor! What are some ways you show honor to your parents? What are some more areas where you can show more honor?
