A Life Of Glory

DAY 3 OF 10

Not the Way It’s Supposed to Be We were created to manifest the glory of God to the world and in order to do that we must conform to His holy character. The problem, as I am sure we can all agree, is that we don’t do so well on the holiness scale! So, what happened? In order to find out we have to go all the way back to the beginning, in Genesis. In Genesis 1, before the fall of Adam and Eve, God created mankind in His image, conforming to His holy character. With morality and intelligence to be His representatives in His creation and deemed it “very good!” This is the way it was supposed to be. Mankind, God’s greatest creation, living in peace and harmony with a holy God. Continuing in the book of Genesis, we then see the entrance of sin into the world. God gives man all of His creation to enjoy but commands him not to eat of the fruit of one tree, for his own good. Through the deception of Satan and the choices made by Adam and Eve, sin roared into the garden. In a series of tragically laughable events, Adam and Eve try to cover up their sin from the all-knowing God. They blame God, each other, and eventually Satan for their sinful choice. God places a curse, but then in an act of incredible grace, covers their sins with a blood sacrifice and casts them out of the garden. This is not the way it was supposed to be! The Apostle Paul says that we are dead in our trespasses and sins, separated from God. We are controlled by this world, Satan, selfishness and sin, with intent and purpose. One more time, this is not the way it was supposed to be! Our holy and loving God desires so much more for His creation. Through our sinful and selfish choices, we are choosing to be controlled by the world and Satan, which leaves us in the same situation as Adam and Eve. It keeps us under the curse and out of a relationship with the God, who loves and desires the best for us. What’s the answer to the fall of Adam and Eve and our subsequent sin? Only by the grace of God can it be the way it was supposed to be! Two questions : Had I been Adam or Eve would the fall still have occurred? How do I feel about my own sin?
