The Tent Of MeetingSample

In Exodus 35, we come back to the story of Bezalel, the artisan. We have already seen that God had chosen him to lead the construction of the Tent of Meeting and that He had given him all the capacities he needed to fulfill the task that he was entrusted with. However, in verse 34, we also read that God has given Bezalel and Oholiab the capacity to share their knowledge. Today’s thought is quite practical, but as artisans in His House, I believe that we should all have this hunger to share everything we know with one another. In a world where so many people try to bring others down in order to stand out, I believe the opposite should be true in the Church. If we understand that everything we have comes from God and that everything we do has no other purpose than to glorify our Creator, we should never be afraid of others being able to surpass us. If you feel threatened when someone talented lands on your team, maybe it’s time for a little heart-check. Insecurity and comparison have no place among us. We are playing on the same team, so when someone else scores a goal, the whole team wins. If you’re the leader or the pastor of your team, why not look for every opportunity to grow the people that are under your leadership? Maybe they’re a little young or maybe they don’t yet have the same level of experience or talent as you do, but why not start looking at ways to see them move forward? We can’t grow without experience, and don’t forget that at some point, you were probably the one who was afforded that same opportunity to serve and grow. If you’re not a leader but you’re just part of the team, why not take a new person on the journey with you? I don’t think it’s just the leader’s job to welcome new people on team. You’re a guitarist? Start sharing your sounds & the gear you use. You’re a designer? Share your technical and artistic know-how. You’re a sound engineer? Take that new person who doesn’t know anything yet and teach them everything you know. We are far from being a perfect team, but I love that this is one of our defining characteristics as a team. We have very few (if any) professionals who serve on weekends, but we have an army of volunteers who consistently look at ways to see others take part into what we are doing. And over time, I love the fact that some of these people have even become professionals through the experience they gained on team. I pray this would become the reality in all of our churches. If it’s not yet the case for you, just remind yourself that change is possible, and that it always starts with us!
