Lent Devotional: RestoreSample

Restore: Binding up Mum Nadine, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has already been through one of the most tragic experiences anyone could endure. She lost her entire family and, in her grief, left her home behind her to come to the village where she now lives. “Life is difficult here,” Nadine says, “we hardly find things to eat.” Food is incredibly scarce and their small domed hut, made of sticks and leaves, affords little protection from the rains. Nadine tells us that she and her husband, Motema, do casual work for a nearby community, for which they are usually paid in yams (a type of root vegetable). She would love to farm for her own family, but has no tools of her own. “I would love to plant peanuts. After that, I would be able to get clothes for myself and the children.” She longs for a better future for her children. Dear Lord God, thank you that you comfort the broken-hearted. We pray today for Nadine – please reveal your peace to her and help her know the freedom a relationship with you brings. Please restore the relationship between the Pygmies and their neighboring community. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
