AS IT IS IN HEAVEN In this chapter of Matthew, Jesus teaches the disciples how they should pray. Many of us know this as “The Lord’s Prayer,” and have prayed His words before meals, in our church services, or before bedtime. To any believer, this prayer is very familiar. Unfortunately, it could also become a “token prayer” or “ritual” where we completely miss the revelation and teaching that Jesus wants to instill in us. If we aren’t careful to pray it with sincerity and meaning, it can become routine. Often in our walk with the Lord and even in church culture, we have an “us versus them” mentality when it comes to lost people or as we often say, “the world.” We ask God to deliver us from our trials and tough circumstances rather than inviting Him into those moments in our life to bring His Kingdom rule and His perfect will. I love that so much of what Jesus taught us is an invitation to step into the Kingdom and live in it. You see, the Kingdom offers us a higher way, a better way, one that is established by the rule and reign of King Jesus. The prayer of “As It Is In Heaven” comes directly out of the Lord’s prayer. What could happen if we started asking God to bring His Kingdom right here to the earth today through us? Jesus told us that the Kingdom of God is both at hand, and within us. When we begin to live from this posture of faith and belief, we will begin to see the world around us and the people who live in it very differently. We will see as though nothing is impossible. The prayer of this song is “On the earth as it is in heaven, let it be here with us right now.” We’re asking God to let the culture and Kingdom of Heaven be known to us right here and right now. Instead of just simply waiting until we die to enter the Kingdom of God, we are able to enter it here on earth as we await the promise of eternity that we will one day step into. This changes everything. Ask the Lord to reveal His Kingdom to your heart in a greater way. Write down some ways that you can display the Kingdom of God in your daily life.
