The Mount

DAY 9 OF 10

Verses: Matthew 7:7-14 Title: Ask, Seek, Knock Today you will learn: We’re told to ask, seek, and knock. If we’re not directing these things to God, we’re on the wrong path. We talked about sibling rivalries earlier in this plan. When I was younger, we were watching a cartoon where characters were playing pranks on each other… and it gave us a few ideas. My middle brother was drinking his soda, but stopped to walk out of the room for a minute. I looked at my oldest brother, and we both knew something bad was about to happen to that drink. After briefly looking in the fridge, my brother grabbed the hot sauce. He proceeded to dump this hot sauce in the drink. Upon coming in, we stood in front of the drink, acting very suspicious. Instead of questioning what happened, he told us to get out of the way of his drink! We were giggling as he guzzled the entire soda quickly, evidently so fast he didn’t notice it was ‘hot sauced’. He made it all the way up the stairs before it hit him, and ran back down for the water! I’m so thankful God is NOT like my brothers and I. God desires to give us good gifts; not make us get choked up! Jesus told us this in Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Unfortunately, we tend to take this verse and make it something that it’s not. He gives us good gifts, of course; but what we think are ‘good gifts’ and what God knows are ‘good gifts’ are two different things! I’m sure you’ve wished for these things: “I want a brand new sports car!”, “I want to date that cute kid at school”, or “I want a million dollars!”. Please hear me out on this, it’s so important: GOD IS NOT A GENIE IN THE LAMP! He doesn’t just grant whatever you want, because not all the things you want are truly good. But if you remain faithful to God and keep reading His Word, it’s going to change what you ask for. If you’re seeking God’s will, you’re going to ask for tools to further His kingdom. These are the types of good gifts God will equip you with! Jesus lived a selfless life; not only did He come to earth to show us His love, but He also died for us so that we could be with Him in Heaven! Before asking God to bless us in different ways, be thankful that he’s already blessed us through Jesus! If Jesus lived a selfless life, then we should too. Today, ask God to bless you in ways that will serve others and glorify God in a mighty way! Summit Prayer: Lord Jesus, I pray that you help me be more like you. You were selfless, and only desired to further your kingdom. I pray that the things I’m asking for will help equip me to further your kingdom. Amen.
