The Spirit Carries our Burdens
Numbers 11:14, 17, 29
“I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me…I will take of the Spirit that is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you carry the burden of the people so that you will not have to carry it alone…I wish that all God’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”
Spiritual leadership requires the Spirit of God. When the Spirit of God fills us, we contain the resources needed to respond to the challenges of leadership with God’s strength rather than our own. The burden of the people can ‘squeeze’ the joy and strength out of a leader. As the Spirit was poured out on seventy leaders, several of them were in their tents rather than in the assembly. Joshua objected to the Spirit filling the leaders who were outside of the assembled group. Moses’ response reminds us that leaders must relax when God gifts and anoints people outside of their knowledge, programming or control. Our trust is in God, not our capacity to control all that God is doing!
Lord Jesus, thank you for the anointing of your Spirit this day.
