Who God Is
Exodus 34:5-7
“Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished;…’”
God’s name signifies his unchanging character and nature, the qualities which guide his interactions with men and his activity in history.
Do we know this God?
Or, have we created another god from our own experiences in life or faith?
Are there aspects of God’s unchanging nature that we need to rediscover or renew in our own understanding?
The Lord is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, full of love, full of faithfulness, forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. God also punishes sin that has not been repented of and covered by the blood of his son, Jesus Christ. This is eternal and unchanging. Creator God desires relationship with us.
Will we pursue knowing him in all his fullness?
Lord God Almighty, you are so faithful, compassionate, gracious and loving toward me! Thank you! I desire to be like you.
