Zechariah 4:6, 10
“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty…Who despises the day of small things?”
God’s building projects are birthed in the Spirit and are not dependent on man’s might or power. While they might start small, they grow because the living God is leading them. Man’s projects require man’s might and power. Pride and independence mark them. God’s projects require humility and dependency on the Spirit. The rebuilding of the temple in Zechariah’s day was a huge project initiated by God’s Spirit as he spoke to Babylonian slaves and conquered peoples.
Whose counsel would they be following? – the intimidation of the surrounding Arabs? or the encouragement of God’s Spirit?
Whose voice will we be following?
Father God, I desire to listen and obey your Spirit’s leading and direction. I repent of my dependence on strength and might rather than on your Spirit.
