God’s Reserve
1 Kings 19:18
“Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel – all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him”
God knows those in each generation who have remained faithful to him and to their covenant with him. They are his reserve. The purpose of Satan, the enemy of God, is to seduce God’s people into worshiping other gods, and so rob God of his glory. The Baal worship included sexual immorality and even human sacrifice. This public idolatry grieved God and put significant social pressure on those who did not join in the festivities.
Did they please God or please their neighbors, families and government?
What idolatry is seducing our hearts away from God?
Are we part of God’s faithful reserve in this generation?
When Christ returns, will he find us faithful?
Lord Jesus, you are my King, my Leader and my life. I choose to be faithful to our covenant this day, for your glory.
