Vesele hrály na tamburíny a drnkačky a při tanci prozpěvovaly: „Saul pobil své tisíce, David desetkrát více!“ Saula to velmi rozzlobilo, ten popěvek se mu vůbec nelíbil. Říkal si: „Davidovi přiznali desetkrát více, a mně jen tisíce. Aby mu tak ještě dali království!“ Od toho dne Saul hleděl na Davida už vždycky podezíravě.
