While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take this; it is my body.”

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he handed it to them, and they all drank from it. “This is my blood of the covenant,” he told them, “poured out for many.

“You’re all going to abandon me,” Jesus told his disciples. “It is written, “ ‘I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

Get up! Let’s go! Here comes the one who’s handing me over to them!”

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus responded, “tonight—before the rooster crows twice—you’ll claim three times that you don’t know me.”
