Main Idea: Why Jesus’ Rule Brings True Freedom
How on earth can having God as your master bring freedom? Well, here are a few reasons why having Jesus rule your life is as free as you can be.
First, Jesus made you. The Bible tells us that all things were made through Jesus (John 1:3). He knows humanity better than you do, and not just that, He knows you personally better than anyone, including yourself. Like a good parent who knows what their child truly needs, Jesus knows far better than you what you need. You’ll find more freedom under His rule than you’ll ever find on your own.
Second, Jesus loves you even more than you do. Some of us think really highly of ourselves; others struggle with insecurity. But no matter where you land, Jesus knows exactly who you are, all your strengths and weaknesses, and He loves you anyway. His love isn’t short-lived, selfish, or conditional. It is lasting, eternal, unchanging, and self-sacrificial. You’ll never find anyone more interested in your good than Him, including yourself.
Third, Jesus knows the future, including the eternal future. Imagine you could call your future self for advice on what to do today. You’d probably listen, right? Jesus is infinitely better than that. He knows what’s coming, not just next week or next year, but forever, and wants what’s best for you. Letting Him guide you brings lasting freedom and offers much longer-lasting freedom than just sitting there hoping you have it right.
Reflection Questions:
- In what ways does Jesus’ love for you bring greater security and freedom than trying to depend on your own understanding or strength?
- How might remembering that Jesus knows your future help you make decisions or face challenges with more peace and confidence?
