MAKING SPACE FOR ENCOUNTER

Jesus is known for so many miracle moments on His time here on earth. He loved to be amongst the people. He spent time with those no one else wanted to spend time with. There was a demand on his time, his attention, his humanity. There is one thing though, Jesus never neglected. Jesus loved to pray. He would seek solitude. He would search out His Father’s heart. He demonstrated what was possible for ordinary human beings like you and I. In that same way, you and I can make time for connection. We can intentionally create space to meet with God. Praying isn’t a one-way street. Conversation occurs, revelation follows. In this He promises to reward us with Himself. What a privilege!

  • Scripture:

Matthew 6:6 (AMPC) – “But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.”

John 14:21 (AMPC) – “The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]

  • Personal story:

During a particular season I was praying for a friend who went on a prayer journey in a European country for three weeks. In the mornings I would spend time with Jesus and just ask Him what was on His heart. He would share scriptures, pictures and insights. I would pray it through and if led by the Holy Spirit, I would share some of these insights with my friend. One particular morning, I heard a name I didn’t know, I looked it up and for sure such a place existed. The Lord continued to give me strategy and I shared it with this friend. It turned out they were undecided to which city they should head. When I shared the name in the way that I did that felt like a confirmation of God’s guidance to them. It also gave them insight into how they could partner with the Holy Spirit in that region. This allowed me to realize that my regular routine of praying had built the confidence in me to be able to share these insights with them. It built their faith in recognizing God was with them and leading them.

  • Prayer:

Holy Spirit, I love my secret time with You. As I sit with You, You become real to me. I am aware of You in every moment of my life. Thank You for sharing your secrets with me. Amen.

  • Practical exercise:

Set aside 10 minutes today to be still and ask God to show you a snapshot of His heart for you.
