GOD IN THE EVERYDAY

God cannot be limited to church settings or chapel pews. In fact, that is an Old Testament idea, if we recall the tabernacle of Moses and the temple king Solomon built. In the New Testament the believer is considered the temple or the container of the Holy Spirit. God has made his home in you. You are His address. God desires to do all of life with you. He longs to be known in the extraordinary and mundane moments of your life.

  • Scripture:

Psalm 139:1-5 (TPT) – “Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have laid your hand on me!”

Acts 17:27-28 (AMPC) – “So that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him, although He is not far from each one of us.”

  • Personal story:

I caught an early morning flight to preach at a camp and caught a little shut-eye. As I woke up, I noticed a lady reading the newspaper, in the horoscope section. I wondered why on earth someone didn’t tell her that Jesus had a plan for her future. As I had this thought, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper back, ‘Yes, I wonder why on earth someone didn’t tell her…’ As I leaned into His guidance the Holy Spirit shared some personal details about her, her family dynamics, why she was travelling and what His heart was for her. He also revealed that she had pain in her right knee. Right then her pen fell to the ground, I picked it up and was able to share those thoughts with her. She was quite surprised that the Lord knew those intimate details about her. She also allowed me to pray for her knee. This was a beautiful moment in which we both discovered that God knows us deeply and cares for us intimately.

  • Prayer:

Father God, thank You for lovingly creating me. You do not just tolerate me, You celebrate me. Thank You for always being present and involved in my life. Make me aware of how You are present with me today. Amen.

  • Practical exercise:

Reflect on your day and write down one moment where you sensed God’s presence or could imagine Him being near.
