Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power (Revelation 20:6 NKJV).

Will you participate in the first or the second resurrection?

Revelation 20:4 describes the millennial reign of Christ, where believers will reign with Him. John then describes two resurrections. Resurrection number one has several parts; it includes various resurrections to raise the redeemed from the dead. For the believer at death, his soul and spirit immediately go to heaven. Paul writes, “to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV). What a joy to know that Jesus’ death emancipates us from the body of death. The second death points us to Revelation 20:11–15, where all the unsaved are raised from the dead to be judged and eternally banished to the lake of fire. All unbelievers will spend their eternity forever tormented in this dreadful place. Therefore, the first death is physical, and the second death is spiritual.

Thank God for His Son’s victory over death! Are you walking in that victory today? Are you using your life to advance His kingdom? Living as a child of the King means reflecting His character and purpose in all you do. I hope you live confidently in Christ’s victory. Let your actions reflect your identity as His ambassador.

Employment Point: Believe on Jesus who died for your sin and conquered death, and escape the second death.

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
