GENESIS 46
Jacob received from God the hope that his family — the nation of Israel — would one day return to the Promised Land, Canaan; and that the Lord Himself would accompany them on their journey to and from Egypt. But most of all, God returned his beloved son to him. After so much time grieving Joseph’s absence, God granted grace to Jacob, allowing him to see his son again before dying — and that it would be Joseph’s hand to close his eyes (Genesis 46:4).
The reunion between Jacob and Joseph brings comfort to their hearts, and this reveals so much about God’s character! He cares about our emotions and about bringing hope amid affliction. We experience this through Jesus, because of whose sacrifice we now have access to a gift: the Comforter. God cares so much about what we feel that He gave us a Friend — the Holy Spirit — who teaches us, guides us, and gives us peace (John 15:26–27). Just as He cared for Jacob and Joseph through their reunion, He cares for us today.
LET'S PRAY:
Take a deep breath now, close your eyes, and take a moment to reflect on God's love being poured out on you. Ask Him to heal your heart and embrace you.
