“And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” Genesis ‭11‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Noah built the ark according to God’s Word and his family was preserved. Noah built and followed God’s Command. What are you building? Why are you building it? Who are you building for? Your heart matters to God. Your “why” is the overflow of your heart.

Why are you building a city? Why are you building that tower? Why are you building that business? Why are you building that career? Why are you building that ministry? Are you building an idol for others to worship? Or are you building to honor God? Idols fall.

The Tower of Babel was built upon pride. Anything built based upon pride will fall. God exalts the humble and humbles the proud. Businesses that are built upon pride—God confounds. For the plans of the prideful are faltered, while the dedication of the righteous is exalted.

Let’s unpack the heart of the prideful as described in Genesis‬ ‭11‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV,‬. “And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”

Notice the fruit of the prideful as stated in Genesis 11:4 KJV, “Let us make a name for ourselves.” The prideful are self-interested. The culture of the prideful is self-centered and self-promoting. In fact, the fruit or the works of the prideful may “look like” the fruit of the Righteous—until God comes to inspect it.

A tower, a business, a city, a career, or even a ministry may look like it’s “rising," much like the tower built upon pride, but the rise looks like growth—until God inspects it.

“And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.” Genesis‬ ‭11‬:‭5‬ ‭AMPC‬‬. What are you building? What are you constructing? If God inspected the work of your hands—what would He find? Will He confound your progress and scatter your seed? Or will He build upon the work of your hands? For the legacy of the righteous is remembered, but the memory of the wicked is as the dust—it fades away.
