Day 24: Hope When It Hurts

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

When life wounds us, hope can feel distant. Unattainable.

The disappointment. The diagnosis. The betrayal. It can cloud our vision to see that good and Godly things can happen - will happen. It can make it hard to see that healing is possible. That joy is possible.

But Scripture reminds us that hope doesn’t come from circumstances - it comes from God.

He is the God of hope.

When all seemed lost in the Garden of Eden, God was quick to bring us hope of a future Messiah. A Saviour. Hope in the person of Christ.

Paul doesn’t say you have to create the hope. That you somehow have to manufacture it or will it to be. Paul says, He fills you as you trust Him. Trust is the key. As you trust, He pours in joy. As you trust, He supplies peace. As you trust, hope overflows.

Even in the pain.

Hope doesn’t mean everything is okay. It means you believe it will be, in God’s time and in God’s way. Because He wastes nothing and is working for our good.

You don’t have to fake it. You don’t have to pretend the hurt isn’t real. But you can choose to hope anyway. Because your story is still unfolding and God is not done writing it.
