Shame Erased

The prophet Jeremiah announced a new covenant God would make with His people, different from the one broken in the past: “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts... And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins” (Jeremiah 31:33-34 NLT).

This new covenant, sealed with the blood of Jesus, brings with it a radical release from guilt and shame. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Jeremiah 31:34 NIV).This promise is fundamental for living unashamed. God chooses to forget our forgiven sins. Why then do we keep carrying them?

The new covenant offers us a new way to relate to God, based on grace and forgiveness. Circumcision was a sign of the old covenant; in the new covenant, it is the Holy Spirit who seals our relationship with God deep within us. No physical mark is needed anymore because we live by the Spirit, and the Spirit marks hearts. You can live free from the things born of the flesh and the law. We are no longer under the condemnation of the law, but under the grace of God.

Our sins are erased.
Our past is removed.
Shame—eliminated.
Guilt—defeated.
Sin—crucified.

Jesus’ work on the cross made it possible. Today, embrace the promises of the new covenant. Live in the freedom of God’s forgiveness, knowing your past cannot affect your present or your future in Christ.

Reflection questions:
• How does believing that your forgiven sins are forgotten by God impact your daily life?
• In what tangible ways do you feel the difference between living under law (expectations, guilt) and living under grace (love, freedom)?
• What does it mean for you to have the Holy Spirit as the mark of your covenant with God, rather than an external sign?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for transforming my heart, forgiving, and erasing my shame. I accept the gift of Your freedom. Strengthen me to remain in it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
