IMPRESS: A Parent's Guide to Passing on Faith

ڕۆژی2 لە 8

The “I” of IMPRESS is for Intent.

We need to be intentional about how we live and share our faith within the home.

As parents, it’s easy to become complacent or distracted in our faith journey. We may find ourselves half-asleep in life - overworked and over-scheduled, juggling countless demands and priorities. Even in our spiritual lives, we might drift into simply going through the motions: attending church services, reading the Bible, and saying prayers, all without truly engaging with God's presence or seeking His will for our lives and our families.

Paul’s words to the Ephesian believers remind us that we are called to be awake and alert in our walk with Christ. We are called to shine the light of Christ into a dark world - exposing darkness and bringing hope and truth to those around us.

This intention begins at home.

The most significant gospel opportunity we have as parents is in regard to our own children. We have been entrusted with the stewardship of their lives—and that includes impressing the story of God into their hearts.

As Haim Ginott wisely said:
"Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression."

We must be mindful of what we are pressing into our children’s lives while the concrete is still wet.

Action:

For You

Take some time today to reflect on your own spiritual wakefulness. Are there areas in your life where complacency or distraction has crept in?
Ask God to awaken your spirit and renew your passion for Him.
Pray for the wisdom to recognise and seize every opportunity to shine His light—in your family, your community, and beyond.

With Your Kids

Share with your children the importance of living intentionally for Christ. Encourage them to join you in seeking God’s will for your family.

IMPRESS: A Parent's Guide to Passing on Faith

We find the word Impress in Deuteronomy 6, where Moses urges God’s people to pass on faith to the next generation. Based on her book Impress, Ainsley Freeman invites us in this reading plan to rediscover how we can leave a lasting faith legacy for our kids. Even in today’s busy homes, we can share God’s story in relevant and engaging ways. Using IMPRESS as an acronym, this plan outlines seven practical principles to help you make passing on faith a clear and compelling priority in your home.
