Living like Christ lived here on earth is a fundamental principle of the Christian life. We are given the opportunity to say yes to eternal salvation through Christ, which is not based on anything we could ever do or earn but freely gifted by God. We are then called to be transformed to look like him through obedience to God’s Word. Jesus was sinless but yet still lived in the flesh. And yes, that’s impossible for us, but using his life as a model for ours helps that transformation.

Jesus starts his ministry by living out one of our fundamental commands of scripture in the New Testament. He is baptized. Baptism is an important part of our journey. It’s symbolic for others to see but it’s also a symbol of our surrender—of our flesh, of ourselves—to living with and for the Holy Spirit. It represents our declaration of Salvation - our yes to Jesus being the Lord of our lives. It’s our rebirth from us being stuck in our sin to being freed of that sin and declaring a life of freedom through Christ. Have you taken the step of baptism?

And even though Jesus himself didn’t need that because he was that - it’s the very starting point for how he lives his life on earth. It’s also a way he shows us how to live here on earth as well. From the very beginning of his ministry, he is walking out what he teaches. Jesus doesn’t just come to earth with words, he follows through with his actions.

Do your actions align with your words? Jesus modeled this for us from the very beginning of his ministry. He reminds us that he wasn’t out of touch with what we were going to go through in our lives but instead, in the midst of it, we could trust him who knew no sin, who became flesh to die for ours.
