DAY 4 OF 5

BEGIN TO PLAY [The video portion of this devotional is not available on your device. To view this video, visit your plan at www.Bible.com] "Let the music begin, dance and sing." I like that, because music is not without mistakes; and dancing even more so (especially when it comes to my dancing!). To be yourself will take a lifetime of practice. A doctor practices medicine, a monk practices his faith, and you practice being you. Let the music begin. It’s going to take time. And on the day you were born, you became the beginning of what is possible. You are a dream come true, an imagination in physical form. You are the embodiment of what is possible, your thoughts, your words, your songs, your painting. These works bring your personal soul to life. They call that which isn’t into existence. Most of this world is not in my control, and the sooner I accept that fact the better. Henri Nouwen says, “The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.” There’s humility in the face of the unknown. The place where you announce your limitations is where your growth begins. We humans, though incredibly powerful in our ability to create and plan, build and destroy, are not God. Our journey of life is a narrow river that runs between the mountains of chaos and control, pre-destination and free will. Between what I can control and what I can’t. And this is where life happens. Where relationships rise and fall, where empires succeed or meet their demise. These are the deep waters, the glorious, terrible space between the mirage and the facts, between the waking and the dream. This is where we live and where our song is born. When we talk about sports, or drama, or music, we use the verb "play." You don't work baseball; you play it. You don't work an instrument; you play it. Even if it's your occupation it's still play. You are a human being- not a "human doing." You were made to play your part. So begin to play! “Let the music begin, dance and sing. For the Eternal is listening and nothing pleases Him more than his people.” For more daily resources visit SWITCHFOOT.com )
