L’amor del Crist ens empeny: hem comprès que un ha mort per tots, i això vol dir que tots han mort amb ell. I ell ha mort per tots perquè els qui viuen ja no visquin per a ells mateixos, sinó per a aquell qui ha mort i ressuscitat per tots ells. Per això nosaltres, des d’ara, ja no coneixem ningú de manera purament humana, i si en altre temps havíem conegut així el Crist, ara ja no ho fem. És a dir, els qui viuen en Crist són una creació nova. El que era antic ha passat; ha començat un món nou. I tot això és obra de Déu, que ens ha reconciliat amb ell mateix per Crist i ens ha confiat a nosaltres aquest servei de la reconciliació. Efectivament, Déu, en Crist, reconciliava el món amb ell mateix, no tenint-li més en compte els seus pecats, i a nosaltres ens ha encomanat l’anunci de la reconciliació. Per tant, som ambaixadors de Crist, i Déu mateix us exhorta a través nostre. Us ho demanem en nom de Crist: reconcilieu-vos amb Déu! Al qui no havia experimentat el pecat, Déu, per nosaltres, li va carregar el pecat, perquè gràcies a ell experimentéssim la seva justícia salvadora.
