And Joseph dreamed a dream and told it to his brothers. And they hated him still more.

And Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a tunicreaching to the soles of his feet.

And when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.

And he dreamed still another dream, and told it to his brothers. And he said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. And behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”

And his brothers were jealous of him. But his father was mindful of the saying.

And he said to them, “I pray you, hear this dream which I have dreamed, For behold, we were binding sheaves in the middle of the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and also stood upright. And behold, your sheaves stood around and bowed down to my sheaf.”

Therefore come now, and let us kill him, and throw him into some pit, and we will say some evil beast has devoured him. And we shall see what will become of his dreams.”

Then Midianite traders passed by, and they drew up Joseph and took him out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

And they said to one another, “Behold, this dreamer comes.

And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him.

And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him”—in order to rescue him out of their hands, and deliver him to his father again.
