Trusting God’s Timing
God’s timing is perfect—He’s just rarely early.
Moving to a farm has shown me this to be true time and time again. Take, for instance, the process of growing and harvesting hay. A few years ago, that was something completely foreign to me. Now I see it as a perfect example of how we simply have to trust His timing.
On our farm, we have two main areas where we grow hay, and since we care for about a dozen horses, let’s just say we go through it fast. From hay bags in their stalls to bales placed in the pastures, the horses are munching nearly all day long.
Hay is also one of the biggest expenses a farm incurs. To help manage costs, we try to produce as much of our own as possible. That means we must manage the fields well—and when the timing is right in the spring and fall, it’s all hands on deck for harvest.
Here’s the thing: when it comes to hay, the conditions have to be just right or all the work can be for nothing. If you cut too early, you risk losing yield and hurting regrowth. If you wait too long, the nutritional value drops, and the hay can even become unpalatable for the horses.
Then there’s the weather. Ideally, we need five days without rain and low humidity so the hay can be cut, dried, and baled without moisture creeping in. In other words, there’s a lot outside of our control. We genuinely have to wait on God to reveal when it’s time to move.
That waiting can be agonizing because what’s at stake is significant. Acting too soon—or missing the window—can be costly. So during hay season, we pray. We ask God for guidance. And guess what? He always provides it.
When it is time to act, though, we go to work like no other. Tractors run all day, and headlamps glow late into the evening as we pull every last bale from the field.
I share that story to help you see something: while we focus on harvesting hay twice a year, God is working 24/7, 365. He never takes a break. And even when we get frustrated with His timing, it’s because He’s teaching us to trust Him—not our circumstances.
It’s when we act too soon, or hesitate when He tells us to move, that we get into trouble. Trusting His timing may be one of the greatest challenges we face as disciples. Our world thrives on instant gratification, and waiting has become a lost art.
We’re quick to fill every quiet moment with noise and distraction. But what if instead of forcing busyness, we rested at His feet—showing Him through our stillness that we truly trust His timing?
Patience can sometimes feel like God has forgotten us, but rest assured He hasn’t. His Word promises that He has made everything beautiful in its time. That includes you.
Even in the waiting, He is shaping, preparing, and refining you for something beautiful. Try to not rush what God is perfecting. Trust His timing—rest assured it’s never late, keep seeking Him in all you do.
Reflection Questions:
- Where in your life are you struggling to trust God’s timing?
- What might God be teaching you during this waiting season?
Thank You
If patience has been a struggle—and it is for most men—know this: you’re not alone. God isn’t disappointed in your frustration; He’s inviting you to trust Him more deeply. Every time you choose to wait well, you’re growing stronger as the man He designed you to be.

About this Plan

Patience doesn’t come naturally to most men. We want progress. We want results. Oh yeah - and we want it now. Whether it’s waiting on God, our family, or life itself, impatience creeps in and slowly robs our peace. The truth is, impatience isn’t just a time issue—it’s a trust issue. Deep down, when we lose patience, what we’re really saying is, “God, I don’t trust Your timing.” But what if the waiting seasons aren’t punishments—but preparation? This is for every man who’s tired of waiting and ready to grow.
