Prayers for the Adoption Journey

DAY 4 OF 7

Day 4: Mourning Into Joy

The reality is that adoption is a story of loss for everyone—loss of biological family, loss of connection, loss of what could have been. For adoptive parents, many grieve the loss that comes with infertility. But God does good work with lost things. In places where there is brokenness, there is always potential for redemption.

As an adoptive parent, it can be hard to watch your adopted child struggle and suffer as they make sense of their adoption journey. It is even harder as an adoptee to walk through it.

God promises to be near to the brokenhearted, to listen to our cries, and to respond when we call out to Him. God can handle our sadness and anger, our disappointment and hurt, and our questions of why and why not. Remember, He is the Creator of the universe, and He cares for you. He knows how to take broken things and turn them into something beautiful.

Jesus knows how to redeem things. But He can only redeem what you entrust to Him.

What parts of your story or journey do you want to ask God to redeem? Where can God bring comfort to you today? Remember, He loves you and will walk this journey with you.

Prayer for the Parents

Heavenly Father,

You see the hidden hurts and quiet tears of this precious child. You know the losses they carry, the questions they cannot put into words, and the weight their young heart sometimes bears. Lord, You promise to turn mourning into dancing and sorrow into joy. I ask You to do that in their life.

Where there is sadness, pour in Your comfort. Where there is pain, bring Your healing. Where there is loneliness, fill them with belonging. Replace heaviness with gladness, and despair with hope.

Surround them with laughter, love, and the assurance that they are never forgotten or forsaken. Teach them that their story is not only marked by loss, but by redemption and the beauty of being chosen and cherished.

May their life be a living testimony that You make all things new. Turn their mourning into joy, Lord, and let joy be the song of their heart.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayers for the Child

Dear God,

When I feel sad, please hold me close.
Take away my tears and fill my heart with joy.
Thank You for choosing me and loving me.
Help me smile again and feel Your happiness inside me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
