30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your Marriageনমুনা

Lord, help us serve each other with joy.
Serving with joy has been a challenge for me lately. My husband is in the military, gone quite often, and yet the to-do list remains the same, except it now includes all of the things he typically handles when he is home. I’m tired. Sometimes I just don’t want to serve, and yet I preach to my children and my Sunday school class that serving is an outpouring of worship to the Lord. This is how we show thankfulness for all the Lord has done for us, by humbly serving one another.
Now, back to my husband. When he is home, there are more socks on the floor, toilets need to be cleaned more often, and way way way more crumbs in the kitchen. I find myself not feeling joyful about it. The Lord convicted me of the condition of my heart as I was going through all the tasks on my list and He encouraged me to begin praying for my husband each time I did something in service of him. Socks on the floor: “Lord, protect his path and where his feet will go.” More toilets to clean: “Lord, thank you that he is home right now and we are able to enjoy his presence.” Piles and piles of crumbs (why is he so messy?): “Thank you Lord for the meals we get to have together, the food you’ve provided and the healthy bodies that get to enjoy them.” Suddenly, when I invite the Lord into all the things I’m doing in and around my home, I’m able to live out Galatians 5:13 (NIV) a little easier: “serve one another humbly in love.” My love for Christ and my husband motivates me to pray over them and serve them well.
Today's Prayer:
Lord, helps us to humbly serve each other. Fix our eyes on you so that our service is unto you. Give us strength to do the big and small things for each other. Help our family to be one marked by service.

About this Plan

Bringing your marriage before the Lord is both powerful and redemptive. When two imperfect people stand on Scripture and invite God to strengthen their bond, they build a defense the enemy cannot break. What a gift to know God is for your marriage, and for you. These next 30 days are an invitation to declare his Word over your relationship and trust him with what only he can do: protect, grow, and fortify your marriage from the inside out.
