Behold the Lion of God

DAY 5 OF 6

Day 5

Yesterday, we learned that a pride of lions works together in accomplishing their goal of hunting down prey. Today, we will look in more detail at what exactly happens in a pride and the role of the male and female lions. The role of the lioness is to be the primary hunter of the pack, and they are responsible for raising the cubs. The males, however, also assist from time to time to hunt down their prey, but their primary role is to protect the lionesses and the cubs from other predators, and also to lead the pack in unity. When the pack hunts down their prey, the females will stalk and chase down the prey and try to bring it to its knees in surrender, while the male lion comes in for the final kill. In a pride of lions, there is usually only one male lion together with a couple of female lions. Therefore, the offspring that is produced comes from the same bloodline as that of the alpha lion.

Jesus gave us the commission of going out into the world to make disciples of all the nations. Jesus did say that He is with us, but He gave us the job to go out and seek people so they can become disciples. We, as the laborers in God’s field, are the ones who do the seeking, communicating, reaching out, serving, and evangelizing until we get the people to a place of surrender. Then we call the Alpha Lion to come in and make the “final kill,” a.k.a taking their hearts of stone and turning them into hearts of flesh. Then the lionesses and the male lion will celebrate together in their accomplishment. And how wonderful it is when we celebrate with Jesus over one sinner that repents and believes in the Gospel.

The role of the male lion is to protect his pride and to multiply the cubs so the dominion of the pride can continue. Psalm 18 is a declaration of how David described God as his rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, shield and horn, salvation, and stronghold. These characteristics that David used to describe God are the same ones that Jesus fulfilled in the New Testament. We can find our protection and our shelter in the arms of Jesus, He will not allow the enemy to steal us from His hand. It is Jesus’ responsibility as the Alpha Lion to multiply the cubs. Jesus Himself declared in John chapter 14 that “no one comes to the Father except through me.” Meaning there is salvation in no one else but Jesus, HE is the only One that can add to the church daily. Jesus is the only One who can protect and multiply His Bride.

What an awesome Alpha Lion we belong to.

About this Plan

Behold the Lion of God

Throughout Scripture and especially the New Testament, we find a lot of analogies being used to describe the character and the role of Jesus Christ towards us, as humanity. In this plan, we will look at the similarities between Jesus and a lion, and how and why we need to connect to Him as the Lion of God. Another plan to read together with this one: "Behold the Lamb of God"
