All I Really Want Yesterday we talked about moving beyond a hope in what Jesus can do for us to looking to Jesus as our hope. When we make Him our aim and hope, He will change the things that we are hoping for and give us His peace through it all. What an invitation! My dad asked me a few years back if Jesus was enough for me and I quickly said “Yes. Of course! Jesus is more than enough.” But then I went home and was haunted by this question as I thought through all of my worries and the things that I so badly wanted for my life. I called him back and said “No, Dad. Jesus isn’t enough for me. I know that He should be enough, but if you really look at my heart, you'd see that I want so much more than Jesus. If I'm really honest, I'd say this religion isn't fulfilling me." It was this conversation that changed everything for me. It was then that I decided to stop pursuing religion, and start chasing Jesus! I find that so many are stuck in this same place, but are too afraid to address it. Is Jesus enough for you? How can you tell? If you're not sure, fasting (from food, or anything that has become a staple in your life) is a time-honored Biblical practice that reveals our subtle addictions and desires. When it comes down to it, is Jesus enough for you? "And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19) What if it’s true? What would your day look like if you surrendered all of your wants, fears and hopes to Jesus as if He knew what to do and you could simply walk with Him all day? Talk about a load lifted and freedom found in Jesus! With all of these things out of the way, we could actually experience the fruit of His Spirit as our sustenance and power. I’ve been tasting this kind of life for the past few years and I cannot tell you how INCREDIBLE this new journey is! My religion left me unfulfilled, but it turns out Jesus IS actually enough. Oh Jesus, awaken us to the fullness of what you have for us! Not just a little sliver, but the whole. We so want you to be more than enough in our lives today than you were yesterday.
