Spring Up I remember singing a song growing up that sort of rolled off the tongue. It began as a fun song, but it took on new meaning a few years ago when a haunting question changed the lens I see everything through; "What if it's true?" What if all of these things that I’ve grown up studying and memorizing are actually true? And more over, if they are true, then am I found living as though they are? Here are the lyrics to this old song. Use the “what if it’s true” lens as you read it: I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me Makes the lame to walk and the blind to see Opens prison doors and sets the captives free I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me! So spring up Oh well In my soul Who do you know that lives as though this is true? This same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8); the same heavenly authority that made the blind see and lame to walk; the same power to blow up prison doors and set the captives free lives inside of YOU and ME! All of the fullness of God is found in Jesus (Ephesians 3:19) and if Jesus’ spirit is in us (Colossians 1:19-20) and we are in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17), that means that we have the FULLNESS of God IN US. The fullness of God has a home in you! I can’t help but wonder how much of this fullness I have accessed to this point. I’ve been asleep the majority of my life playing church, and playing the Christianity game, but haven’t lived out of the spring of life welled up inside. Spring Up- is there a river inside me right now wanting to break free what if it’s true, what if it’s true is there a power alive in me that can make a dead man walk and the blind see what if it’s true, what if it’s true what if all the life was already there welling up and drowning out the fear spring up oh well in my soul and let the flood go open the gates every heart and let the river flow till we can see till we believe that you are everything all that we need spring up if i believe it am i living it out
